It is certainly a step up (again my opinion, and I've been using Toontrack drums since DKFH, so I may be biased) from most of the other drum tools. If what you want is a really solid, really flexible set of drum sounds for rock/pop/metal, etc then SD2 will serve you very well. If the new content is of interest then I'd probably save my pennies. The library that is included sounds gorgeous, and adds a whole new palette of sounds.īut the real winners are the Decades expansion, which is becoming my first choice on a lot of things, and the orchestral library, which covers a lot of instruments really well. There are some nice new workflow features, but nothing I could not have lived without, I think? I did upgrade, and there is no audible difference for SD2 expansions. If you have no need for any of the SD3 only expansions then SD2 could be a good investment. I don't care for the sounds on the Vintage Rock but love that it has brushes.would love to use the brushes on another set of drums!Īs far as the mic situation, I feel like what I have can deliver pretty good quality for what I'm doing right now, but I wonder if something like a 4050 or even a decent ribbon mic in that price range might be a more valuable addition than the Superior crossgrade. My thoughts only - but SD2 ia a very capable drum tool, and the expansion packs range from really good to outstanding. One thing I haven't yet been able to put together with EZdrummer is the kind of percussion I would like on say an intimate acoustical arrangement. With EZdrummer, I have a couple of the expansions (Vintage Rock and Claustrophobic) and am pretty happy for the most part with the sounds.but being able to mix and match would be great. And of coarse the 4033 is great for the acoustic. I love the SM7 for rock vocals.and I think for the more spacious ballad type arrangements I like the sheen of the 4033 (though I feel it does lack some body).

Either way you need the mic.Right now the 2 main mics I use for recording are an AT 4033 and an SM7b.

If you don't find EZ lacking and you're singing through an SM58 then I'd get the mic first. Watch this gear and well notify you if it becomes available again.
